They really shouldn't call these Kangaroo Rats. They're too cute to call them rats. They hop just like Kangaroos and are adorable to watch. This is a San Joaquin Kangaroo Rat. There are 20 species of kangaroo rats but this one is a federal and state listed endangered species. Though they only survive in a 3 places in California, they are incredibly common in this one little spot.
