Kabomani Tapir. In 2013, a biologist team from Brazil made news by announcing they
had discovered a new species of tapir deep in the amazon. They are still working to confirm
their findings scientifically but they have done the DNA analysis and they believe it's a species genetically.
It took me 5 years of effort to finally get to meet that team and go out with them looking
for their new species but there it is!

I'm no biologist but after seeing countless lowland tapirs in person all over Brazil
and after 2 different very clear sightings of the supposedly new species of Kabomani tapir,
I felt that I could visually tell the difference between the 2 species.
It is unfortunately very hard to reflect the differences with any one picture, but watching this animal move
and seeing it's size in person, the founding research team and I all agreed this was a Kabomani Tapir.
Later, the paleontologist on the team explained the bone differences in my various pics from this sighting.

The biologists who announced this discovery continue to try to prove their case.
But in the mean time, as of September 2018, I was convinced there are two types of tapir in this area
and I hope that research team is able to get this listed as a species and protected properly.
