Softshell Turtle. Crazy looking but they actually start out life very cute! As the name indicates, their shell is actually very soft. The edges bend and fold easily. They are common from Michigan down to Florida. At least they used to be. I used to find these nearly every year in Michigan when I was a kid. However, this was the only one I ever found up on dry ground. It was laying eggs when I stumbled across it along the shore in Florida!
